Vivian S Furina Obituary

Vivian Furina, 93, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas Furina, with whom she shared 71 years of marriage. Together, they built a life centered around family, faithfulness, and devotion to one another.

Vivian was born and raised in Bayonne, where she spent much of her life and raised her family. She was a hairdresser for many years, working at Bresler’s West in Bayonne. She later worked as a substitute teacher in the Bayonne public schools, including Bayonne High School, and then as a clerk for the ILA Clinic in Hoboken, New Jersey. When her children were in school, Vivian was also active in their education and served as past president of the PTA.

Vivian took great pride in her home and in caring for her family. Her home never needed an invitation; family and friends always knew they were welcome. In many ways, she was the glue that held her family together, creating a place where everyone could gather, share a meal, and feel at home. Wednesday and Sunday were often macaroni nights, and Friday was pizza night — simple traditions that became lasting parts of family life.

She enjoyed cooking, bowling, and spending time with those she loved. Vivian was also a familiar presence at her grandchildren’s sporting events, where she could often be found cheering them on from the sidelines. To her grandchildren, and to many of their friends, she was affectionately known as “Gram.” Family was always at the center of her life, and she remained deeply involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Vivian is survived by her son, Anthony Furina; her daughters, Nancy Romano and her husband, Nicholas, and Vivian Murowski and her husband, Paul; her grandchildren, Nicole Furina and Paul A. Lynch, Anthony Furina and his wife, Carolyn, Anthony Romano, Melissa Morano and her husband, Michael R., Nicholas Romano and his wife, Audrey, Dominic Furina and his wife, Katelyn, and Michelle Lupo and her husband, Joseph M.; and her 13 great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Francesco, Michael, Cassidy, Joey, Giada, Giuliana, Amelia, Declan, Lucas, Sofia, Mason, and Brooks. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Mafalda Gattuso and Natalie Glembocki.

Vivian will be remembered for her devotion to her family, the traditions she helped create, and the many years of love and care she gave to those closest to her.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, New Jersey. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 14, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Roman Catholic Church in Watchung. Interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.
