Monica Tobar Obituary

Monica Del Pilar Garces de Tobar, 65, of Middlesex, New Jersey, entered into eternal rest on May 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of the family she cherished so deeply.

Born in Ambato, Ecuador, Monica carried the warmth, values, and traditions of her homeland with her throughout her life. She was raised in Ambato before eventually making her home in the United States, residing in Plainfield and later Middlesex, New Jersey. Though she built a life in New Jersey, Ecuador always remained close to her heart.

Monica was the heart of her family. A devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, she found her greatest joy in spending time with those she loved. Family was at the center of her life, and she treasured every opportunity to gather with loved ones, celebrate life's milestones, and create memories that will be cherished for years to come. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and welcome, where family gatherings were filled with delicious meals, heartfelt conversations, and traditions that brought everyone together.

Her Catholic faith was a guiding force throughout her life. As a faithful member of St. Mary's Church in Plainfield, Monica lived her beliefs through quiet acts of kindness, generosity, and compassion. She believed deeply in helping others and was always willing to offer encouragement, support, or a helping hand to anyone in need.

Nothing brought Monica more joy than spending time with her grandchildren. Whether sharing stories, preparing favorite family recipes, celebrating holidays, or simply enjoying one another's company, she treasured every moment she spent with them. The love she poured into her family will continue to be felt for generations to come.

Monica is survived by her beloved husband, Juan Tobar, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and devotion. She also leaves behind her loving children, Juan A. Tobar and his wife, Ana Mantilla, Andres G. Tobar, and Jocelyn C. Tobar and her husband, Peter Lauria. She was the proud and devoted grandmother of Andrea, Alejandro, Olivia, Juliette, Denise, Brian, Kendrick, Kyandra, Peter, Judith, Joseph, and Penelope, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She is also survived by her mother, Ana Chasipanta, and her siblings, Antonio, Isabel, Maria Eugenia, and Hernan.

She was predeceased by her father, Elias Garces, who passed away in 2013.

Those who knew Monica will remember her gentle spirit, her unwavering faith, her generous heart, and the unconditional love she gave so freely to her family. They will also remember her wonderful sense of humor and the way she could bring a smile to those around her. Even during her final days, Monica continued to joke with her loved ones, offering comfort, laughter, and moments of joy that reflected the strength of her spirit and the love she carried in her heart.

While her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the values she instilled, and the family she loved with all her heart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Church, 516 West 6th Street, Plainfield, NJ 07060, in Monica's memory.
