James Schaeffer Obituary
James E. Schaeffer
James E. Schaeffer, of Warren, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
James was born in Whitehouse, New Jersey, to the late George and Jean Schaeffer. He was raised in Whitehouse and later settled in Warren in 1988, where he made his home for many years.
Early in life, James began working alongside his family and quickly developed a strong entrepreneurial spirit. During the 1960s and 1970s, he owned and operated two bars, The Shamrock and The Rock Bottom. After selling the businesses, James went on to begin a long career in construction. He joined the Operating Engineers Local 825, where he worked for many years. Throughout his career, he did everything from driving trucks to operating heavy equipment before his eventual retirement.
One of James’s greatest passions in life was fishing. Whether saltwater or freshwater, he loved it all. He and his wife, Barbara, traveled to many destinations throughout the United States in search of the best fishing spots, including Manasquan, Hoffman’s Anchorage, countless lakes, and nearly everywhere from Canada to Florida. They even traveled as far as the Ozarks. James especially enjoyed shark fishing and treasured the time he spent outdoors.
James was also an avid hunter. His stepson, George, fondly remembers the many fishing and hunting trips they shared together, memories that will remain with him always.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his daughter, Faye Ann Schaeffer; his son, James Schaeffer Jr.; his stepdaughter, Anna Pilla; and his stepson, George Bilak III. He is also survived by his siblings, Rick Haggerty and Charles Schaeffer; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his beloved lifelong friend, Glenwood.
Cremation services will be held privately.
