Obituary of Clement A. Battoni, Sr.

Clement A. Battoni, Sr., age 90, devoted husband, father & grandfather, died on Friday, August 10, 2007 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick after a brief illness. Mr. Battoni was born and raised in Plainfield, but had resided in Piscataway since 1980. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, a member of the Holy Name Society, the Piscataway Senior Citizens and a member of the Italian American Club of North Plainfield. He was a former member of the Plainfield Rescue Squad and had also worked for United Way. Mr. Battoni was one of the original founders of the Plainfield Boys Sports League and coached for many years. He has enjoyed his retirement from Union Carbide in Bound Brook with his family and friends for 28 years. Mr. Battoni served with the 5th Army Ordinance during WWII reaching the rank of Master Sergeant. His campaigns included North Africa, Sicily and Italy, including Monte Casino and Anzio. Sgt. Battoni received several commendations, including the Legion of Merit from then General Dwight D. Eisenhower. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Florence Mastrianni, four sons Clement Jr. of Ringoes, NJ, Ronald of Wapwallapen, PA, Anthony of Piscataway, NJ, Neil also of Ringoes, NJ and five grandchildren, Mathew, Danielle, Neil Jr. , Sean and Nicolette. He is also survived by three sisters Pauline Mazet, Mary Prisco and Margaret Randazzo. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 15th at 9:15 a.m. from Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd, Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Piscataway. Entombment will be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
