Obituary of George A. Sweezy, II

George A. Sweezy, age 94, died on Monday, December 14, 2009 at the Greenbrook Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Green Brook. He was born in Port Monmouth, NJ and was a long time Warren resident. Mr. Sweezy received his Chartered Life Underwriter degree from the American College of Life Underwriters. Until his retirement in 1976, he was employed by the Prudential Life Insurance Company since 1933. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 until 1945. He was assigned to the USS BEARSS, a destroyer and participated in many operations in the Aleutian Islands. Mr. Sweezy organized and was the first president of the Men's Garden Club of Watchung Hills in 1977. In 1977 and 1978 Mr. Sweezy was active in The Union Village United Methodist Church and the Warren Township Republican Club. He was also a member of the Congdon Masonic Lodge in Bernardsville for 30 years. Mr. Sweezy is predeceased by his wife, Martha Sage Sweezy in 2008. He is survived by his daughter, Ann Tate and her husband, Robert; his son, George A. Sweezy and his wife, Alane and his five grandchildren, Lora Sweezy, Brian Sweezy, John Sweezy, Robert Tate and Geoffrey Tate. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Union Village United Methodist Church, 1130 Mountain Ave., Berkeley Heights followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung
