Obituary of Irene Cantor Bilus

Irene Cantor Bilus, age 89, died on Sunday, December 20, 2009, at her home in Monroe. Born in Jersey City, she was raised in North Bergen before moving to Plainfield in 1950; she lived in Plainfield and Westfield before moving to Monroe. Mrs. Bilus graduated from Weehawken High School and had owned and operated along with her late husband Irving the Atkin's Dry Goods / Home Decorating Store in Plainfield and Buy-Rite Curtains and Draperies in Dunellen. She was the 1st President of The Sisterhood at Temple Beth-El in Plainfield and had volunteered at Muhlenberg Hospital and the Plainfield Rescue Squad. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and played the lead role in many musical productions at her Temple. A loving homemaker, mother and grandmother. Predeceased by her husband Irving Bilus in 1981. Surviving are her son Benjamin S. and his wife Elizabeth Nickeson; her daughter Jeri Ellen Bilus; a sister Edith Brown; three grandchildren Alexander Bilus, James Bilus and Caroline Wilson and two great grandchildren Samuel and Robert Bilus. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009 at 11:00 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th Street, Plainfield. Interment will follow at the United Hebrew Cemetery, Staten Island.
