Obituary of Edwin Donald Phillips

Edwin Donald Phillips Founder Scientific Machine and Supply Co. North Plainfield: Edwin Donald Phillips, age 89, died on Friday January 1, 2010 at the Green Knoll Care Center in Bridgewater. Mr. Phillips was born in Rochester, NY; had resided in Bridgewater and for 52 years he lived in North Plainfield before recently moving to Califon. In 1956 Mr. Phillips founded the Scientific Machine and Supply Co. in Middlesex where he was an inventor and a machinist. As an inventor he holds twenty-five patents. He was president of the Scientific Machine and Supply Co. until he retired in 2001. He was a member of the American Scientific Glassblowers Society. He is predeceased by his wife Mary (Dodds) Phillips in 1988 and his identical twin brother Edward Phillips in 2003. He is survived by two daughters Elizabeth Landau Lawrence of Califon and Margaret Lynn Brown of Westfield; a sister Josephine Dunlap of Sarasota FL. He is also survived by six grandchildren Virginia and Roger Landau and Zachary, Mary, Henry and Gregory Brown. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday January 7, 2009 at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung followed by a burial at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the funeral home.
