Obituary of Raymond C. Sylvester

Raymond C. Sylvester, age 83, died on Monday, May 17, 2010 at his home in Warren. He was born and raised in Elizabeth and moved to Warren 50 years ago. Mr. Sylvester served in the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II. Mr. Sylvester was a bricklayer for over 50 years and had worked at Brandstatter Concrete Co. in Newark for 35 years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Bricklayers Local # 4. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in North Plainfield and a member of its Prayer Group and Alter Guild. He was an associate of the Warren Township Community Fire Company and was an Assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scout Troop # 28. Mr. Sylvester enjoyed hunting and working around his home, which he built over 50 years ago. He is predeceased by his son-in-law, John Geis and his brother, Willard Sylvester. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Lois Genz Sylvester; his son, Raymond C. Sylvester of Newcastle, CA; his daughter, Kathleen Geis of Somerset; his brothers, Elmer and Charles Sylvester; his grandchildren, John and James Geis and Carl, Adam and Raymond Sylvester and his great-grandchildren, Malhila and Riley Sylvester. Funeral services will begin on Friday, May 21st at 9:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral mass at St. Joseph's Church in North Plainfield. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
