Obituary of Seaman Melton

Seaman Melton formerly of Warren Township passed away on November 6, 2016 at Hancock Regional Hospital Hospice in Greenfield Indiana. He and his late wife Mary Suckoe Melton were married in the Millington Baptist church in 1950 and resided in Warren Township for 45 years where they raised their family. He was the son of the late Willis and Dolly Melton of Avinger Texas. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Mozelle McClellan, Hazel Rutherford, and Lillie Mae Johnson. Seaman and his sisters grew up in the Methodists Children's Home in Waco, Texas. Seaman loved his mother in-law Gizella Suckoe and always referred to her as the best mother. Seaman served in World War II in the United States Merchant Marines delivering supplies in unarmed ships to the U.S. troops all over the world. He was honorably discharged from service on August 15, 1945. Seaman worked for American Cyanamid (Calco) in Bound Brook, New Jersey for 25 years before retiring as a carpenter. He always helped family and friends who needed any carpentry repairs to their homes. He was an avid fisherman fishing the lakes and streams of New Jersey and Indiana. He was a life time member of the Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Warren Township where he and his wife were very active. Seaman is survived by his children, Mary Dolly (Bob) Varner of Greenfield Indiana, Nancy (Tony) Viscito of Grand Forks North Dakota, James (Bonnie) Melton of Forty Fort Pennsylvania, and Priscilla (Mike) Franzyshen of Somerset New Jersey. He is also survived by Eight Grandchildren, Fifteen Great Grandchildren, and one Great Great Grandchild. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, Warren followed by interment at the Mt.
