William Edward Smoot Sr.

“Billy”

Willian Smoot, is the son of the late Emery L. Smoot and Alberta E. Garner. He began his life’s journey on November 2, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY. He departed this life on May 28, 2017 at Care One at Somerset in Bridgewater, New Jersey. William was affectionately known as “Billy” to his family and all those who knew him.

Billy’s family relocated to Central Jersey when he was ten years old.  He received his education through the Middlesex and Bound Brook Public School Systems.  After graduating from Bound Brook High School, Billy went to work at Union Carbide Corporation.  He retired 49 years later as a Master Technician in Research and Development specializing in wire and cable.

Billy soon met the love of his life Rose Ann VanNess, who he lovingly nick named “Smooty”.  They were joined in matrimony in 1957.  From this beautiful union two children were born, Carol Ann and Billy Jr.

Rev. 7:12 “Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen”. This was Billy’s favorite scripture. Billy was raised attending church his entire life, honoring God through music.  His voice was a gift from God.  Billy  traveled throughout the state singing professionally with the Emanon Acappella Choir and the Ric Charles Choral Ensemble. Billy loved music he spent hours in his “cave” listening to his favorite songs.

Billy was a sports enthusiast having played basketball and football in high school. As a young man he played first base for “Ben’s Bombers”, a men’s soft ball team. Billy was an avid bowler, fisherman and photographer. He also loved the NY Mets. Billy strived for excellence in everything he did.  His greatest achievement was his love of God and Family.  He was truly loved by his family and all who knew him. Billy never hesitated to support his children and grandchildren emotionally and financially as they navigated their way through life. “Pop-Pop” was always there. Billy leaves a rich heritage and untouchable legacy as a man of God.

Billy is pre-deceased by his parents, Emery L. Smoot and Alberta E. Garner; two brothers Charles Frederick Smoot Sr. and Jackie Brown.

Billy leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife of sixty years, Rose Ann Smoot; a daughter Carol Ann Jackson (Jvaughn); a son, William Edward Smoot, Jr. (Bertha);  a sister Carole L. Roach; four granddaughters Kyante’ Rene’  North (Latif), Kiesha Monique Smoot, Carrie Ann Hargrove, (Anthony) and Shavonne Michelle Jackson, a grandson Aaron Joseph Jackson; four great~grandsons Tyler Degrasse, Jamal Spruiel, Deon Doyle, Jr., Niles North; two great-granddaughters Nyah Doyle, Nylah North; a great~great~ granddaughter, Nevaeh Degrasse. and host of other relatives and friends.
