Elijah Lewin

Obituary of Elijah Peter Stanley Lewin

Elijah Peter Stanley Lewin was born on August 4th, 2022, at 2:43 AM, at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick, NJ. He was only 30 weeks old, weighed 2 pounds and 5 ounces, and 14 inches long. As soon as Elijah entered the world, he began his 14-month battle, as a warrior (fighting for his life). Shortly after Elijah was born, while needing ventilator support, he contracted a rare virus, which attacked his lungs, resulting in him needing a tracheostomy. He was diagnosed with chronic lung disease, BPD (Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia) and Pulmonary Hypertension, and multiple other health issues. Within his seven months stay at RWJ Medical Center, regardless of his medical issues, Elijah loved his spa days, his body massages, bath times, listening to lullabies, story time with his family, sitting up in his mamaroo chair, being held by his parents, facetime calls from grandma, aunts and cousins, watching his favorite TV shows (Daniel the Tiger, Coco melon and Sid the Science Kid) and most importantly, don’t forget his personal fan for his crib.

On March 8th of 2023, Elijah was transferred to CHOP children hospital, for further care. During his stay at CHOP, Elijah faced more challenges, including multiple surgeries and procedures, and doctors had to put him on high sedation and paralytic medication. Elijah unfortunately had to be paralyzed on and off for the first five months during his stay at CHOP. Once again, through all the adversities that Elijah was going through, he maintained his personality of being a very curious, nosey, and observant little guy. You couldn’t sneak into Elijah’s room without him noticing you were there. After 14 months of battling seizures, urinary tract infections, multiple blood transfusions, severe edema, and other health issues, Elijah transitioned on October 23, 2023. Even though Elijah's stay here on earth was short, his story has blessed and touched so many lives.

He leaves to cherish his memory: His parents (Peter and Teaha Lewin), Sister (Tionna Nimmons), Great Grandma (Dorothy Whitaker), Great Grandma (Eunice Walden), Grandma (Carrien Lewin), Grandparents (Stanley and Ruth Whitaker), Grandparents (Jimmy Lewin and Deloris Lewin), Aunt & Uncle (Marlon and Shavonna Harewood), Aunt (Nicole Valentine), Uncle (Corey Smith), Cousin/Siblings (Aria and Carter Harewood) and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and God Parents.
