Obituary of Carmella M. Mahoney
We announce with deep sorrow the passing of Carmella "Connie" Mahoney at the venerable age of 97. Connie departed this life serenely on December 10, 2023, at the Sunrise Assisted Living Center in Basking Ridge.
Connie was a native of Buffalo, but it was in Bridgewater, NJ, where she established her home in 1966. There, with her beloved husband James, she nurtured and raised a loving family.
Professionally, Connie contributed her talents to the Messenger Gazette, a Bridgewater local newspaper, particularly in the classified ads section. Her dedication to her work was only surpassed by her profound commitment to her faith.
Connie's home was a haven of warmth and hospitality. Her zest for cooking and hosting gatherings made her home a cherished destination for family and friends alike. Her absence leaves a void that will be keenly felt by all who knew her.
Sadly, Connie was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Hank Pfister, in 2015.
Her legacy continues through her devoted husband, James Joseph Mahoney, to whom she was a loving partner for 76 years. She is lovingly remembered by her children: James and his wife Susie, Paul and his wife Linda, and Mary. Her five grandchildren, Patrick, Devin, Natalie, Brendan, and Thomas, along with her sister Rosemary Portera, will carry forward the light of her love.
A visitation to honor Connie's life will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 9 to 10 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. A funeral mass will follow at Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:30 am. Connie will then be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Cemetery in Watchung, where her spirit will rest in peace.
