Obituary of Sr. Margaret Waldron

Sister Margaret Waldron, age 96, died peacefully at McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung, NJ on March 29, 2024. Sister Margaret was born in Plainfield, NJ, the daughter of John and Margaret (Flatley) Waldron, both born in Ireland. She was a Sister of Mercy for 74 years.

Sister Margaret, formerly known as Sister Mary Paula, entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1950. She earned a BA in Mathematics from Georgian Court College in Lakewood, NJ, and a Master's in Education in Administration and Supervision from Rutgers University. Sister had a long and fruitful ministry in education in various schools throughout the state, teaching first at the elementary level and later at high schools. She also served as vice-principal at St. Pius X High School in Piscataway and St. Mary’s High School in Perth Amboy. Sister Margaret later served as principal in both St. Mary’s High School in Perth Amboy and St. Mary’s High School in South Amboy. She was then appointed as administrator of St. James Convent in Red Bank. Sister also served in the finance office for the community. In 2006, Sister Margaret retired and moved to Gabriel Hall at Mount Saint Mary in Watchung where she continued to live out her motto “Love Serves”.

Sister Margaret was predeceased by her parents as well as her sisters Eileen Waldron and Josephine DeBiase and her brother John Waldron. 

She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Waldron, many loving and attentive nieces and nephews, and her religious family of Mercy. She will be greatly missed, fondly remembered for her faithfulness and Irish wit, and always loved.

Sister Margaret’s funeral services will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Immaculate Conception Chapel at Mount Saint Mary, 1645 US Highway 22 West, Watchung, NJ. The viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m., a Welcome Home Service will be held at 10:00, and her Funeral Mass will commence at 11:00 a.m. Burial at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield, NJ will follow the mass.
