Obituary of Chester D. Szymanski

Dr. Chester D. Szymanski, 74, died on December 27, 2004 after a valiant battle with leukemia at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. Born and raised in Bayonne, NJ, he resided in Martinsville, NJ for the past 45 years. An army veteran of the Korean War. He received a Ph D. from the State University of New York at Syracuse, an MBA from Farleigh Dickinson University, an MS from the University of Miami and a BS from the Citadel. Dr. Szymanski retired as CEO and President of Unilever Research, United States. A career science innovator he holds18 U.S. patents and other foreign patents in the areas of food, starches and chemicals. An active member in the church and community, he was a member of the boards of Rider University, the Engineering Council of Columbia University, the Board of Overseers of New Jersey Institute of Technology, Muhlenberg Hospital and the JFK Hospital Board. He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen, his son Andrew and his wife Kathleen of Chicago, IL, his daughters Elaine Armstrong and her husband George of Edgewater, NJ, Susan Vincer and her husband Peter of Caledonia, WI and two grandchildren, Christopher and Lily Szymanski. Sisters Genevieve Kaczka, Marie Murowski, Helen Kopacz, brother Joseph Szymanski and the late Edward and Stephen Szymanski. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 9:00 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd, Watchung, NJ, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church, Martinsville, NJ. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 from 2-4:00 pm and 7-9:00 pm at the funeral home.
