Founded in Elizabeth and later based in Plainfield, our funeral home has proudly served the Watchung community for many decades, continuing a long tradition of trusted service throughout central New Jersey.

Since 2007, Higgins Home for Funerals has been owned and operated by brothers Stephen and Robert Szczubelek, licensed funeral directors who were raised in this community and trained under the third generation of the Higgins family, James and Brian Higgins. The transfer from two brothers to two brothers carried forward a shared commitment to compassionate service and respect for every family’s needs. The lessons learned from those years of mentorship continue to guide our approach today, combining time-honored tradition with genuine, personal care.
