Obituary of Sr. Mary DeSecours McIntosh
Sister Mary deSecours McIntosh, 98, died December 20, 2012, at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung, NJ.
Sister deSecours was born in Philadelphia, PA, in 1914, one of 7 children born to Frances Shaw McIntosh and William McIntosh. She graduated from Red Bank Elementary School, National Park, NJ and received her secondary education at Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill, NJ. Georgian Court University, Lakewood, NJ, granted her a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1954.
Entering the Sisters of Mercy in 1937, Sister de Secours ministered to children in Intermediate and Junior High as teacher and principal for 53 years. She served at St. Ann School, Keansburg, NJ, Our Lady Star of the Sea, Atlantic City, NJ, Mt. St. Mary Academy, Watchung, NJ, St. John School, Paulsboro, NJ, St. Paul School, Burlington, NJ, St. James School, Woodbridge, NJ, St. Mary School, Camden, NJ, and St. Charles Borromeo School, Cinnaminson, NJ. In 1990 Sister became the Director of Food Services at Georgian Court University. She served in this capacity for 10 years and then for another 9 years as Secretary to the Food Service Manager. From 1999 to 2001 Sister volunteered at the University. In 2001 Sister deSecours retired to McAuley Hall Health Care Center and spent the remainder of her years in prayer for all people of God.
Sister is best remembered by her family, friends and sisters as one who loved being a Sister of Mercy and who treasured offering care and hospitality to all.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Visitation will take place at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, 1633 Hwy 22, Watchung, NJ on
Wednesday, December 26, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
Burial will be from Holy Redeemer Cemetery, south Plainfield, NJ.
