Obituary of Loretta Sagrestano

Loretta Sagrestano, 66, died at home on Wednesday (January 5) after a 9 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in New York, the daughter of Michael and Elizabeth Prinzi, she had resided in Bridgewater since 1964. An active member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville, Mrs. Sagrestano was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Parish Lay Board. She founded and served as the first president of the parishs Council of Catholic Women, and was actively involved in the National Council of Catholic Women, having served as second vice president. She was a member and past president of the Altar Rosary Society. She also organized and served as first president of the Our Lady of Peace Columbiettes in Manville. Mrs. Sagrestano was the office manager for Montoro J. Sagrestano, CPA, her husbands accounting practice in Somerville, for many years. As member of the Somerset Medical Center Auxiliary Ivy Twig for 39 years, she held the offices of president and treasurer, and chaired many fundraisers, including the charity ball, antique show, car raffle, and French picnic. She was a volunteer for many organizations, including Right to Life, Great Expectations Maternity Home, and Alternatives, Inc. She was a troop leader for Girl Scouts of America and den mother for Boy Scouts of America. She was a member of the Bridgewater Republican Club, and served for 12 years as the Republican County Committee Woman for the 10th district. Her husband, Montoro J. Sagrestano, predeceased her. She is survived by her five children, Nancy Barry, Stephen and wife Lynn, Lynda and husband Robert Yelle, Kenneth and wife Christa, and Brian and wife Christine; eight grandchildren, Natoshia, Lyndon, Anthony, Katherine, Amanda, Sophia, Holly, and Maya; and one great-grandson, Alexander. She is also survived by her brother Richard Prinzi. A long time member of Raritan Valley Country Club, in her spare time Mrs. Sagrestano most enjoyed vacationing in Palm Springs, playing tennis and bridge, and spending time with her family. Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass on Monday at Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ.
