Obituary of Irene F. Anderson

Irene Florence (Meerbach) Anderson died on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at Integrated Health Services in Bridgewater. She was born in Stratford, CT and had resided in PA while attending Susquehanna University. After graduating with a BA in Education she moved to NJ where she taught at the Baird School in East Orange. While teaching in East Orange, she attended graduate school at Columbia University in NY NY. Mrs. Anderson graduated Columbia University, Suma Cum Laude, with her Masters in Education. She then moved to Montclair where she first taught at Mount Hebron school and then finally at Montclair High School as a freshman English teacher for over thirty years. She was also in charge the schools academic league called Academically Speaking a.k.a Challenge, there matches were often seen on local cable channels. After retiring from Montclair High School in 1994 Mrs. Anderson moved to Warren and remained active as a substitute teacher in the Warren School System. Mrs. Anderson was the first member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church of Warren. She was also a member of the Eastern Star while her late husband was a member of the local masons. She is predeceased by her husband Mr. Kenneth Anderson in 1995. Surviving are her daughter, Kirsten Schneider and her husband Fred of Warren; her sisters, Charlotte Bunke of Wilmington DE and Dorothy Meerbach of Cromwell, CT. Also surviving is a grandson, Fred. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by interment at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9.
