Obituary of Bernard Ottenstein

Bernard Ottenstein, age 84 died on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. He was born in Newark and had lived in Springfield for the past 53 years. Mr. Ottenstein was a stamp press operator for Heyman Manufacturing Company in Kenilworth retiring in 1985. He was a former member of Temple Beth Ahm and Temple Sha Arey both of Springfield. He enjoyed bowling in his spare time. He served in the army during World War II as a surgical technician in the 90th General Hospital. Mr. Ottenstein is predeceased by his four brothers, David, Nathan, Edward and Samuel Ottenstein and his sister, Shirley Shomer. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Freed Ottenstein of Springfield; his two sons, Hal K. Ottenstein and his wife Roni of Clark; Larry Ottenstein and his wife Sara of Kenilworth. Larry works for the Star Ledger as a Zone Manager in the Kenilworth Depot area; and his daughter Barbara Traina of Springfield. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Gina, Lisa, Roy, Matthew, Eric and David; and 1 great-grandson Lil Roy. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 27th at 11:00 a.m. in Higgins Home for Funerals, 461 Somerset Street, North Plainfield followed by interment at Samptown Hebrew Cemetery, South Plainfield.
