Obituary of Daniel Clinton Helms

Martinsville: Daniel Clinton Helms, age 82, died on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at his home in Martinsville. Born in Lansford, PA. he resided in Fanwood, Scotch Plains and Watchung for 40 years before moving to Martinsville in 1998. Mr. Helms graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. with a B.S. in Economics in 1949. He was founder and owner of D.C. Helms Co. in North Branch for twenty seven years before retiring in 1987. Daniel was a World War II Veteran who served in the Army Air Core. He was a member of Union Village United Methodist Church in Berkeley Heights, and was a former President of the Watchung/Warren Rotary Club. He is predeceased by his son Michael Helms in 1974. Mr. Helms is survived by his wife Mary Altdoerffer Helms; his two sons D. Clinton Helms, III of Philipsburg, NJ; Andrew Helms of Martinsville, NJ; his daughter Kathleen Bean of Houston, TX and his sister Blanche Bayly of Evanston, IL. Also surviving are six grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 1st from 7-9 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Union Village United Methodist Church, Berkeley Heights.
