Obituary of Ernest C. Walton, Jr.

Ernest C. Walton, Jr., age 86, died on Friday, February 4, 2005 at the VNA Hospice at St. Lukes in Lehigh County, PA. Born in Newark, he resided in Warren and Ocean Beach for many years before moving to Lopatcong Township in 1995. Ernie served in the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) in Vermont in the 1930s. He was a WWII veteran serving in the Philippines. Ernie was a machinist for many years with Breeze-Eastern in Union. He was a member of the UAW and was a union representative for 30 years. He was also a member of the Union Church of Lavallette. Ernie was a huge Giants and Yankees fan. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Erma Walton (1993). Ernie is survived by his son Ernest H. Walton and his wife Linda of Hillsborough, his two daughters, Cathy Vitale and her husband Barry of Lopatcong, and Barbara Williford and her husband Tom of Warren. Also surviving are six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and his loving companion of seven years, Gloria Thatcher, of Phillipsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association at P.O. Box 1834 in Merrifield, VA 22116-8034. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 12 at 3 PM at Wilson Memorial Union Church in Watchung.
