Obituary of Joseph H. Begley, Jr.
Joseph Begley, age 61, died suddenly on Monday, February 14, 2005 at Southern Ocean County Hospital in Manahawkin. Born in Queens, NY he lived in Brooklyn for several years before moving to Union where he resided for many years. After that, he moved to Bridgewater for 26 years and then retired to Cedar Run, where he has been for the past 5 years.
Mr. Begley was employed as an Iron Worker in Elizabeth with Local 480, for 32 years before retiring in 1999. He was an Officer and Journeyman Iron Worker with Local 480.
Joseph was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany during the Vietnam era. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his mother Catherine Smyth in 1998.
Mr. Begley is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Gail Hawke Begley, his son Joseph Begley of Raritan, NJ; his two daughters Christina Vandervoort and her husband Todd of Somerville, NJ; Stacey Haykel and her husband Jason of Manahawkin, NJ; his father Joseph H. Begley, Sr. of Cedar Run; his sister Maureen Esposito and her husband Richard of Union; his brother in law Russell Hawke of Dayton. Also surviving are four grandchildren Espree, Aaron and Kacee Vandervoort all of Somerville, NJ; and Abigail Haykel of Manahawkin, NJ.
Cremation services were held privately in Basking Ridge. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Toms River, 1070 Hooper Ave., Toms River, NJ. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Ronald McDonald Foundation, One Kroc Drive, Oakbrook, IL. 60523. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ.
