Obituary of Richard G. Clarke

Richard Gary Clarke, age 59, died on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at the Roosevelt Care Center in Edison, where he had been a patient for five years, following an auto accident. Mr. Clarke was born in Plainfield, and lived in Linden, then Little Silver, attending local schools. He attended Rutgers University, and then transferred to Monmouth College where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1969. He was a member of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity and President of Lambda Sigma Tau Honor Society at Monmouth. He continued his studies in computer programming. He served a tour in the Marines, being assigned to a computer facility due to his background and training. On completion of his military service, he was employed as a computer programmer and consultant by several firms, residing in Spring Lake and later in Hillside. He was also employed by Clarke Engineering Co., Linden. He was active in the Marine Corps League Central Jersey Leathernecks, and was an active runner, competing in many area races. He also enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, had an extensive jazz record collection, and was an enthusiastic supporter of several little theater groups. Mr. Clarke was predeceased by his mother, Alice Wood Clarke, and his sister, Carol Clarke Hall. Surviving are his father, H. Gail Clarke and his wife Dorothy of Watchung; his sister, Marilyn Sattler and her husband, Mark of Bernardsville; brothers, Donald and his wife, Kathy of Colonia, and Jeffrey and his wife, Donna of Fanwood; and a brother-in-law, William Hall of Manalapan, and a nephew and niece, Peter and Heather Hall also of Manalapan. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11th at 10:00 a.m. in the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung. Entombment will be in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Thursday from 7-9 p.m.
