Obituary of Herman Gallman

Herman Gallman, age 89 died on Monday, March 14, 2005 at Runnells Hospital in Berkeley Heights. He was born in Birmingham, AL and was a longtime Westfield resident. Mr. Gallman served in the Army during World War II as a Combat Military Policeman. He was commissioned officer in the New Jersey National Guard in 1948 in the 50th AD Artillery, retiring in 1976 after 39 years of combined duty. He worked as an Investigative Clerk at the Bayonne Naval Base, retiring after 25 years and then owned and operated a Real Estate & Insurance Agency in Westfield, NJ. He belonged to the Masonic Temple in Newark. Mr. Gallman enjoyed model trains, building military tanks, planes and boats and working with his hands. He loved fishing and crabbing and spending time with his family. Mr. Gallman is predeceased by his wife, Lela Frances Gallman and his daughter, Sylvia M. Gallman. He is survived by his children, Marilyn F. Adams and her husband Vernell, Leroy W. Gallman and Jannette B. McDaniels; his grandchildren Troy Gwathney and his wife Robin, Leroy Gallman, Irvin Adams, Abel McDaniels, Lela A. Gallman and Arielle P. McDaniels and three great-grandsons, Karon Adams, Trent & Taylor Gwathney. Also surviving are his brothers, Thomas and James Gallman and a host of nephews, nieces and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung. Cremation will be at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. Visitation will be on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
