Obituary of John Schmidt
John Schmidt, age 86, died on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Somerset Medical Center. He was born in Elizabeth, raised in Bayonne and had been a longtime Bridgewater resident.
He received Bachelors degree from Newark State College. He received his Masters Degree from Columbia University, June 1950. He taught in Bridgewater and was principal at Greenknoll, Hamilton and Adamsville schools and before his retirement in 1984.
Mr. Schmidt served in the United States Army during World War II from May 1944 to July 1946, serving in China, Burma and India (CBI).
He enjoyed gardening, reading, bridge, dancing and sports.
He is predeceased by his sister, Agnes Pollack.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Jean Hemenway Schmidt; his daughters, Jodie Schwiederek and her husband Bill and Mary Ethel Schmidt and her husband Joe Krenetsky; his brother William Schmidt and his wife Dorothy; his sister Rose Beasley. Also surviving are his 2 granddaughters, Emily and Grace and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 29th at 9:15 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville. Entombment will follow at St. Marys Stony Hill Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
