Obituary of Sylvia Lichtenstein

Sylvia Adelman Lichtenstein, age 89, died on Monday, April 11, 2005 at her home in Freehold. She was born in Plainfield where she lived before moving to Freehold ten years ago. Mrs. Lichtenstein graduated from Newark Normal School. She taught in various capacities in the Plainfield school system for a number of years. She also taught English to immigrants in the Plainfield area. She worked with her husband, the late Benjamin Lichtenstein in the family business,Lion Shoe Stores in Plainfield, Bound Brook and New Brunswick which closed in 1977 and then co-owned with him the Lions Capezio Dance Shop in Plainfield until their retirement in 1985. Previously, she had been a secretary for Wigton-Abbott in Plainfield. Mrs. Lichtenstein was a lifelong member of Temple Sholom in Plainfield. Her husband, Benjamin Lichtenstein died in 1994. Surviving are her son Jay Lichtenstein of Stamford, CT; daughter, Judy Richter of Trenton; sister, Mary Schwartz of West Hartford, CT. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th Street, Plainfield. Interment will follow at Hebrew Cemetery, South Plainfield.
