Obituary of John Salustro
John Salustro, age 83, died on Saturday, April 16, 2005 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Boston, MA, he resided in Astoria, Queens before moving to Cranford in 1957.
Mr. Salustro was a book-keeper for McFadden and Company in New York City for several years and then went on to work for the Swift and Company in Newark from 1948 to 1975 as a salesman. In 1976, he worked in the same capacity for Durkee Spices in Englewood, NJ retiring in 1986.
He was a very creative artist who enjoyed oil painting, creating home and garden items and working with his hands.
He served in the Army 87th Acorn Division during World War II. He served in North Africa and Italy and received the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gloria T. Celio Salustro; his son. John Salustro and his wife Connie of Warren; his daughter, Nancy Ahuja and her husband Premnath of Miami, FL; his grandchildren, Nicki and Jacki Salustro of Warren and Natasha Ahuja of Miami, FL. Also surviving is his brother, Burt Salustro of Levittown, LI and a sister, Gina Siconolfi of Peoria, AZ.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2005 at 10:30 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung followed by a 11:00 am funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Mount Church, Warren. Visitation will be on Thursday from 8:30 to 10:30 am.
