Obituary of Bertha Caroline “Bertie” Blockle

Mrs. Berta Bertie C. (Hissem) Blockley, 83, died Saturday, May 14, 2005 at Care One at Madison Avenue in Morristown after a brief illness. Born in North Plainfield, she resided in Newark before moving to Martinsville in 1951. Prior to retiring in 1990, she was employed for over 30 years as an executive secretary for Ortho Pharmaceutical Corporation in Raritan. A graduate of North Plainfield High School, class of 1939, Bertie was a volunteer for the Friends of the Somerset Arts Association in Bedminster and was a member of the Mount Horeb United Methodist Church in Warren. Her husband George Blockley predeceased her in 1980. Surviving are a brother Benjamin Hissem of Belleville and her longtime friends. Relatives and friends are invited to meet at Mount Horeb United Methodist Church in Warren on Thursday, May 18, 2005 for a 10:00 am Service with Pastor Gil Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park Cemetery in Basking Ridge. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. Memorial donations to either Mount Horeb United Methodist Church, 42 Liberty Corner Rd., Warren, NJ 07059 or the Somerset Art Association, 2020 Burnt Mills Rd., Bedminster, NJ 07921 would be deeply appreciated.
