Obituary of Martin J. Sweeney

Martin J. Sweeney, age 85 died on Thursday, June 30, 2005 at his home in North Plainfield. He was born in Hazleton, PA and was the son of the late Thomas and Rose Hoffmeier Sweeney. He spent most of his life in North Plainfield. Mr. Sweeney was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He was employed for many years by the First National Bank of Central Jersey in Bridgewater. He was a member of the North Plainfield Recreation Commission and was a communicant of St. Josephs RC Church in North Plainfield. Many years ago, Mr. Sweeney was the broadcast announcer for the North Plainfield High School football games. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Mary Primiano Sweeney; his daughter, Susan Shields and her husband, Steven of Plainfield and his grandsons, Lee Martin Ungaretta of Easton, PA and Kevin Campbell Ungaretta of Plainfield. Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Oliver Primiano and his wife Mary of Martinsville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2nd at 9:15 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at St. Josephs RC Church in North Plainfield. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be on Friday, July 1st from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
