Obituary of John W. Alker

John W. Alker, age 94, died on Wednesday, January 16, 2012 at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge. Born and raised in Stamford, Connecticut, he then attended high school and college in Philadelphia, Pa. John graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science degree and went on to become a Chemical Engineer. His career took him all over the United States, even working in England and Scotland. Jack, as he was known, loved to travel, play golf and especially loved the railroads. He was very involved with the Lions Club wherever he lived. He and his wife spent over 20 seasons enjoying the friendship and activities at an RV Resort in the Florida Keys. Jack truly enjoyed people of all ages and was never at a loss for conversation. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley, in 2010. Surviving are his daughter, Linda Heras and her husband, Bob; his grandson, Bill Heras; Step-grandchildren, Kristin Lowery and Rob Heras, and 5 great step-grandchildren. Cremation was private and held under the direction of Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. Memorial Services will be held Friday, January 25 at 11:00 AM at Fellowship Village (primarily for those friends who are residents and staff who would otherwise be unable to attend the services at the church) and Saturday, January 26 at 11:00 AM at the Martinsville United Methodist Church, 1949 Washington Valley Road, Martinsville, NJ.
