Obituary of Sixto Ortiz
Mr. Sixto Ortiz, age 87, died on Tuesday, September 06, 2005 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Mr. Ortiz has been married to his wife, Loida Covas for 58 years and they resided in Warren for the past 14 years. He worked for the New York City Transit in New York for 14 years as an Accountant, retiring in 1983. Prior to that he worked for the Emerson Company in Jersey City as a Supervisor. Mr. Ortiz was a W.W.II Army Veteran. Vice President of the International Union of Electrical Workers, President of the Civil Rights Committee and he marched on Washington with Martin Luther King. He was an avid Mets fan who raised rabbits, chickens, made bird houses, worked in his garden, and enjoyed traveling. But most of all he loved spending time with his 20 grandchildren. Mr. Ortiz is survived by his wife, Loida Covas; his son Jamie; four daughters Loida, Pamela, Arinda, Evelyn; and 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held on Friday, September 9, 2005 at 9:15 a.m. from the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at Our Lady of the Mount R.C. Church, Warren. Cremation will be at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
