Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Griffiths
Mary Elizabeth Frank Wall Griffiths, 96, died peacefully Friday, January 25, 2013 at The Woodlands in Plainfield, NJ. Elizabeth will be missed tremendously and fondly remembered for her unwavering faith in God, her unshakeable positive outlook on life, and the sheer joy she had for day to day living.
Born in Troy, NY on June 14, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Charles Frank and Helen O'Connor Frank. Raised and educated in Troy, Elizabeth grew up on 14th Street where she attended St. Paul the Apostle School and graduated cum laude from Catholic Central High School in 1935. Elizabeth graduated cum laude from The College of St. Rose in 1939 with a degree in Business Administration and English. Following graduation she worked in Boston as a claims adjuster for the Liberty Mutual insurance company.
The World War II widow of Howard J. Wall, she married Robert L. Griffiths in 1946. Beth and Bob raised eight children in Plainfield: Howard J (deceased), Mary E. (deceased), H. Patricia, Robert M., Catherine G. Bihler, Joann de Padua, Christine Goldstein and Peter F. She continued to reside in the family home until her death. She was very active in the community as well as St. Mary's Catholic Church. Elizabeth was involved with Meals on Wheels and the Missionaries of Charity, in which she was a Lay Missionary.
She is survived by her sister Agnes Baskin of Lakewood, NJ. Elizabeth was predeceased by her brothers Charles Frank and Joseph Frank and sisters Helen Casey and Rita O'Brien. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a viewing on Tuesday January 29, 2013 at 6-8 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth St. Plainfield. A Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 516 West Sixth St, Plainfield, NJ. Interment will be at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ.
