Obituary of Thurston R. “Chuck” Sweeney

Mr. Thurston R. Chuck Sweeney, 81, died Friday, November 11, 2005 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born in Plainfield, he lived there for a while, moving to Dunellen, where he resided until his sophomore year of high school, when he moved to North Plainfield. Mr. Sweeney was a WWII Navy Veteran. After separation from service, he worked continuously as an independent butcher for numerous shops in the area until his retirement. Chuck, as he was affectionately known by his friends and clients, was known for his dry sense of humor and practical jokes. Surviving are his wife, Rita T. Ulmer Sweeney; a son William R. Sweeney and his wife Janice, and their children Michael and Jamie of North Plainfield; a daughter, Nancy Charles and her husband, Glenn and their children, Brianne and Thomas of The Woodlands, TX and a sister, Virginia DeMartin of Toms River. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 15 at 9:30 am at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 461 Somerset Street, North Plainfield with Rev. Ed Edwards officiating, followed by entombment at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. In lieu of flower, donations to the American Cancer Society, Somerset Unit, 600 First Avenue, Raritan, NJ 08869 would be appreciated.
