Obituary of Marian Schumacher

Mrs. Marian Marshall Schumacher, age 81, died on Monday, December 26, 2005 in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center. Born in Lewiston, Idaho, she later lived in Omaha, Nebraska prior to moving to Watchung in 1927. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Schumacher, in 1992 and by her father, the Rev. Benjamin H. Marshall, the pastor of Wilson Memorial Union Church in 1945 and by her mother, Bessie Marshall, in 1936. Mrs. Schumacher graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1941. After working for one year at Prudential Insurance Company in Newark, she attended the New Jersey College for Women, which is now Douglas College, in New Brunswick and obtained her B.S. in Home Economics in 1946. After graduating from college, she taught home economics in the Summit Public Schools. She was a longtime active member of Wilson Memorial Union Church in Watchung where she served as Sunday School Superintendent, and then Church School Director. She was a member of the Douglas College Alumnae Association. She had served as a member of the Womens Auxiliary of the Watchung Rescue Squad of which her husband was a founding member. She also supported and participated in many activities of the Optimist Club in Watchung. During the 1960s, Mrs. Schumacher and her husband were active in the U-Go-I-Go Club, a social organization of young adults affiliated with the Wilson Memorial Union Church. She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Donald Schumacher and Mary of New Albany, Ohio and Russell and Judith Ferguson, of Yardley, PA; and her brother, John Marshall of Nashville, TN. She is also survived by three step-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Memorial Union Church, Watchung with the Rev. J. Ronald Miller officiating followed by a gathering in Fisher Hall. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions may be made to the Wilson Memorial Union Church Sunday School, 7 Valley Road, Watchung, NJ 07069 or the Rutgers University Foundation, 7 College Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ 08901-1261
