I met Dr. Neblett last year at the Freedom Center event for the Yates Scholars. He was such a wonderful, caring, open, supportive person. In the brief time I had the privilege to spend with him--he INSPIRED me and all of us Yates scholars for a lifetime!!! He was truly a GREAT MAN. The world has lost a treasure to heaven.

Hello Elizabeth. I don't know if you remember me, but I lived with my husband Bill in the big yellow house across from Peg Barthelme from 1983 to 1997. Your parents were delightful and true friends to us, particularly to me when my husband died suddenly in 1994. I exchanged Christmas cards with your father after your mother's death and am very sad that I didn't see him when I visited Peg in November. I will never forget all their kindnesses to me and want you to know your mother, in particular, will live on in my family through two recipes she shared with me and I have credited her on my recipe cards...her famous brownies and that insane jalapeno jelly we loved so much. I think you and I met only once, but I sympathize with your situation. My last parent died a couple of years ago and it is a very lonely feeling indeed. Best wishes to you. I know for a fact that you were the light of their lives, and that you are making a contribution to humanity, which was very important to them both.
Fondly,
Gail Henry

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Neblett. I met him last year on his visit to the University of Cincinnati. As a young African American Professor in the Department of Chemistry it was a pleasure to meet and talk with one of the pioneers for African-Americians in the field of chemistry. I greatly apprciated the time he spent with me. I hope I am able to do for future generations what Dr. Neblett was able to do for mine. My family will keep his family in our thoughts and prayers.

In living his life, Dr. Neblett gave us the blueprints and set the standards in which we could all better serve and lead our community. His standards included a commitment to education, as well as, service to the community.
I knew him as a compassionate leader and mentor for minority students at the University of Cincinnati.
His strength and spirit galvanized our students to attain their career goals; while his can-do attitude, motivated them to never settle for less.
In his departure, Dr. Neblett's dedication to service and humanity has left a legacy for all to emulate.

I first met Dr. Neblett in the summer of 2004, not long after I began a new position at the University of Cincinnati Graduate School as Director of Recruitment and Retention. Dick had made a significant contribution to our Yates Fellows and Scholars program for underrepresented students. Over the subsequent year and a half I have had the privilege of getting to know him better, corresponding about the progress of our Yates scholars and welcoming him as a guest speaker for our Yates students at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. A nurturer through and through, Dick's greatest pleasure was talking with or hearing about these young people. He shared my enthusiasm and was as impressed by them as they were by him.
He has left a wonderful legacy for these scholars and future leaders. The program will miss him greatly. And I will miss him personally -- his warmth, his wit, and his interest in our students.

Dick will always be remembered for his leadership in sciences and Foundation work. We met in early 1980s when I was President of the Westinghouse Foundation and he was a seasoned grantmaker. He taught me a lot and I am forever grateful. I send prayers!!
