Uncle Brother & Eric, I had a conversation last week with Eric and I shared the things Aunt Bernice and I talked about the last time I saw her, I told her I wanted her to know who SHE is to me and as I read the comment left by Tameko I came to see that it wasn't just me to felt that same way about her. My words to her...
Aunt Bernice isn't just Aunt Bernice, she is THE AUNT WHO ALWAYS SHOWED UP. All my life, no matter what it was, a birthday party, labor day cookout, 4th of July, Christmas party, Candle show, graduation party, or just a family gathering to get a few laughs she was the person who we all knew would always be there. Everytime, very pleasant, always asked about our family by name, always had a kind word to say. Aunt Bernice touched my heart in a way that no one else ever has. When I saw her it was 3 weeks to the day almost before God saw fit to take her home and my God the struggle she went through with her illness... She showed up when it mattered the most because although she was very ill and in having hard times all she could talk about was how much she wanted Eric to be ok. A mother's love flowed so deep that even the pain of cancer could not defeat it. I will greatly miss her smiling face and the sweetness she brought to everyone she touched. Aunt Bernice is now in heaven with one of my favorite people in the world...my cousin Brian. Saying goodbye to the both of you deeply broke my heart but I know God had much better plans for the both of you.
I truly thank God for giving me the opportunity to tell her how much I love her and how WE the King family descendants all view from our perspective. THE AUNT WHO ALWAYS SHOWED UP; showed up right up to the very end.
I love you both Uncle Brother & Eric and if you need me, please don't hesitate to call me.

As I look back on my childhood I have pleasant memories of family gatherings in Somerville. Aunt Bernice would arrive neatly dressed with her hair neatly tucked into her signature bun. She was polite, soft spoken and mild mannered. As I entered adulthood she remained constant..attending cookouts, bridal and baby showers. I got to know her in a different way. We had conversations that nine times out of ten ended with a hearty laugh. She was funny without even trying. I will hold onto those memories. My heart goes out to my Uncle Brother and Eric at this difficult time. I hope it does your hearts well to know that she was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
