Obituary of Joseph R. Deck

Joseph R. Deck, 93, a longtime resident of Watchung, died suddenly on Friday, February 3 at his home. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, he resided in Plainfield before moving to Watchung in 1950. Prior to retiring at the age of 70, Joe was a self-employed house painter for over 40 years. During World War II, he was employed at the Buffalo Tank Corporation in Perth Amboy welding Liberty Transport Ships. Always a handyman, Joe built his own home in 1950 on a piece of property he had purchased in Watchung. A member of Wilson Memorial Union Church in Watchung, Mr. Deck had been very involved with the Boy Scouts, Pack 32 in Watchung. His son Ronald R. Deck predeceased him in 2005. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Mildred Millie V. Greene Deck, two sons, Herbert of Ramona, CA and Patrick T. Deck of Watchung, two sisters, Frances Pezzei and Helen Batcha both of Toms River and a grandson, Jacob Deck of San Diego, CA. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 6, 2006 at 11:30 am at Wilson Memorial Union Church, 7 Valley Rd., Watchung. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 pm at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung.
