Obituary of Matyas “Matty” Kovacs
Matyas Matty Kovacs, age 69, died on Monday February 6, 2006, at his home after a nine month fight against AML Leukemia. Matty came to America in 1957 after the Hungarian Revolt when he was 21. In the late 60s he resided in Union, then lived in Roselle from 1967 until 2005 before moving to Browns Mills in July 2005. He had businesses in Maplewood and Union before moving his business to Watchung in 1969. Matty is a long time businessman in the town of Watchung; owning Mattys Car Care on Somerset Street in Watchung where he was an ASE Certified master technician; until his retirement in September 2003. Matty was also active with the NJ Gasoline Retailers Association since 1969 and was active in the fight to keep self-service gas out of NJ. He was recently made a life member. While he didnt live in Watchung he devoted his life to helping the community as a member of the Watchung Rescue Squad since 1974. He held the titles of lieutenant (1st and 2nd) Vice President and President. He is currently a life member of the squad. Matty is survived by his wife Vilma Dugmonits Kovacs; his daughters Sue Kovacs-Argento and her husband Charlie of Browns Mills; Vilma (Bunny) Hoge and her husband Brian of Oregon; and Vicki Jaskula of Brick; his brother Kalman Kovacs of Hungary and his beloved grandchildren; Bill MacKenzie, Jr., Amber Rose Macyszyn of Browns Mills and Steven Jaskula of Brick. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10th from 2-4 & 7-9 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Watchung Rescue Squad, 10 Stirling Road, Watchung, NJ 07069 or the Blood/ Platelet Donations in his name at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ.
