Dear Mary and Family:
Gene and I read with great sadness that our longtime friend, Stanley, had died this Monday. We knew Stanley since 1979 when he wrote a warm condolence letter to us on the death of our dog, Chekhov. From that day on, we shared many fun times, running together across the hills and roads of Warren, visiting one another in our homes and swimming together in the Madison YMCA. Our happiest memory of Stanley was driving him to the Berkeley Heights train station in a mad dash to catch the train to New York City after he had just completed a long run of twelve miles and was late for work. The train was approaching the station, the whistle was blowing, the gates were down but Stanley insisted we cross the tracks and "beat the train" so he could hop aboard and continue dressing for work. For years we laughed when we thought of that moment, seeing Stanley half-dressed, climbing aboard and wishing he still had more time to run several more miles. Our friend, Stanley, was a real character and wonderful person and we will never forget his great courage, spirit and humor. We firmly believe that Stanley is now physically free to dash across the heavens and run to his heart's content with nothing to stop him.Until we all meet again, be happy. All our love, Patti and Gene
