Obituary of George H. Newes

George H. Newes, age 78, died on Friday, March 17, 2006 at his home in Plainfield. He was born in the Czech Republic and came to the U.S. in 1956 where he lived in West Orange until moving to Plainfield in 1966. Prior to his retirement in 1992, he was the banquet manager of the Chanticler Chateau in Warren. Mr. Newes was a communicant of St. Marys Church in Plainfield and a member for over fifty years in the Schlaraffia, the German International Fraternity. He was an avid reader who loved classical music, skiing, photography and poetry. Surviving are his wife, Cruz Vives Newes; his son, Steven G. Newes and his wife Christine of Chatham and his grandchildren, Peter G., Carolyn M. and Brian W. Newes, all of Chatham. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 20, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th Street, Plainfield followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral mass at St. Marys Church, Plainfield. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Haven Hospice, 65 James Street, PO Box 3059, Edison, NJ 08818 or to the American Cancer Society 669 Littleton Road, Parsippany, NJ 07054-4834.
