Obituary of George Manual Gilbert

: George Manual Gilbert, age 90 died on Thursday, March 23, 2006 in New York City. He was born in New York City and moved to Hudson, NY at the age of 3 and then moved back to the city. Mr. Gilbert received his Bachelors Degree in Engineering in 1941 from Ohio State University. He served in the US Signal Corps from June 1942 to June 1946 and participated in the Saipan and Iwo Jima invasions. Mr. Gilbert started his career in the Watervliet Arenal in Watervliet, NY as a junior engineer. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he was the chief supervisor for Defender Products in New York from 1946 to 1970. In 1971 he was a self-employed Real Estate Appraiser until 1975. Following that, he worked for the government from 1976 until his retirement in 1990, as a Disaster Relief Engineer and appraiser. After his retirement, he was on an on-call status with the Federal Disaster Assistance Administration. He is predeceased by his granddaughter, Emily Gilbert in 1995. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Adler Gilbert; his sons, Mark Gilbert and his wife, Jean of Wynnewood, PA and Robert Gilbert and his wife, Cathy of Warren; his brother, Abe Goldberg of Hudson, NY and his 3 grandchildren, Paul, Sarah and Elizabeth Gilbert. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung followed by interment at Mt. Eden Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
