Obituary of Sarah Greenberg

Sarah (Freedman) Greenberg of Watchung NJ, previously of Lauderhill, FL and North Miami Beach, FL, died on Monday, May 15, 2006. Born December 17, 1909 in New York City, she was the daughter of Dr Louis Freedman and Jennie (Kaplan) Freedman. She was the beloved wife of Dr. Morris W. Greenberg, mother of Lisbeth Greenfeld and Jonathan Greenberg and mother-in-law of Nancy (Nadel) Greenberg, grandmother of Barbara Greenberg and Mark Greenberg. Sister of the late Hannah Rabbino, the late Florence Morris, and the late Bernard Freedman. She attended Parsons School of Fine and Applied Arts and New York University, receiving a BS in Education degree. She was an artist and art teacher in the New York City public school system before the outbreak of WWII. Sarah Greenberg spent a lifetime in volunteer work, most notably for Womens American ORT (Organization for Rehabilitation Through Training). A charter member of the Greynolds Park chapter of ORT from 1960, she held a variety of positions at both chapter and regional level, including treasurer, president, and newsletter editor. She was also a charter member of the Parkway Regional Medical Center Auxiliary in North Miami, serving as president, newsletter secretary, recording secretary, and historian. Services will be held on Monday, May 22nd at 10:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd, Watchung, NJ. Interment will be at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. Contributions may be made to Women's American ORT, 250 Park Avenue South, Suite 600, New York, NY 10003.
