Obituary of Ottilie S. Disbrow
Ottilie Schroeder Disbrow,Teacher of German, recently of The Chelsea of Fanwood, NJ, was born May 17, 1916 and died Saturday, June 24, 2006. She lived in Westfield and Watchung for most of her life. Mrs. Disbrow attended Oberlin College, studied her Junior Year Abroad at the University of Munich, and graduated from Barnard College. She attained her M.Ed. from New York University and did doctoral work at NYU. She also was selected as one of 77 national scholarship winners to participate in the Stanford Foreign Language Summer Institute in Germany. Mrs. Disbrow taught in the Westfield school district for more than 25 years, retiring in 1978. She taught Latin and English in Roosevelt Junior High School, English and German in Edison Junior High School, and German in Westfield Senior High School. After retirement, Mrs. Disbrow also taught German in the North Plainfield Community School for several years. She had been active in the Westfield College Womens Club, Westfield Community Players, the Watchung Arts Center, and the Plainfield Gesang und Turn-Verein choral group. Mrs. Disbrow, daughter of Alfred and Chryssa Schroeder and sister of Alfred C. Schroeder, was predeceased by her husband, William S. Disbrow, II and is survived by her daughter Linda Bond-Nelson of North Plainfield, her grandson Stephen Bond-Nelson and his family of Berkeley Heights, and her granddaughter Lisa Bond-Nelson and her son of Moraga, CA.
