Obituary of Robert Lee Purnell, Sr.

Scotch Plains: Robert Lee Purnell, Sr., age 77, died on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center. He was born and raised in Weldon, NC and had lived in Newark from 1955 to 1967 before moving to Scotch Plains. Mr. Purnell was a cook for Maneros Restaurant in Rochelle Park for 25 years, and then worked for the Plainfield Country Club for 5 years. He was a Korean Army Veteran. He enjoyed being outdoors with his neighbors in the neighborhood. Mr. Purnell is predeceased by his wife, Lillian Mae Purnell in 1980. He is survived by his two sons, Robert Lee Purnell, Jr. and Steven Kenneth Purnell; one sister, Mary Jessie Smallwood; three grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 16 at 10:00 a.m. in the Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th Street, Plainfield. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
