Obituary of Ethel Ruth Abrams
Ethel Ruth Piness Abrams, age 88, died on Tuesday, November 14th at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Mrs. Abrams was born in Passaic, raised in North Plainfield and had lived in Plainfield and Scotch Plains before moving to Bridgewater in 2005. She received her AB from Cornell University in 1939 and was editor of The Cornell Daily Sun. She also received a Masters in Education from Rutgers University in 1974 and was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, an education honor society. From 1940 1944 she was employed as a social investigator for The NJ State Board of Child Welfare. In 1964 she received her NJ Teachers Certificate and went on to teach at North Plainfield High School. After retiring from North Plainfield she was employed as a language consultant for Atkins International working with foreign executives of major corporations primarily in the fields of pharmaceuticals, communication, energy and general products. Her late husband Norman Abrams died in 1989. Surviving are two sons, David Abrams of Washington, D.C. and John Abrams of NYC, and a brother, Sidney G. Piness, M.D. of Plainfield. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 17th at 11:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung. A private interment will follow at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin, NJ.
