Obituary of Walter Rusin

Walter Rusin, 74, of Warren Twp. died on Nov. 23, 2006 at 1:39 pm at his home with his wife of 53 years and son by his side. Visitation will be held on Sunday November 26, 2006 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, with a 3:30 pm service. Born in Shamokin, PA in 1931, Walter was the son of Maryann and Joseph Rusin. Known to his close friends as "Walt", he and his family grew up in a coal mining town. Coal mining was a family business which was later disbanded. Enlisting in the Army in 1950, Walt served in the 544th Engineering Construction Co., where his aptitudes were best put to use. Upon his discharge, Walt bettered himself by continuing his education at Rutgers University where he studied Horticulture. Walter was employed for 20 years by C. F. Braun in Murray Hill, NJ where he was the head of the Maintenance Dept., which he loved. When the property was sold in the early 80's to Dunn and Bradstreet, Walt was part of the package. Walt took an early retirement package offered by D&B, in order to stay busy, he took a position with Tamke Tree Experts of Liberty Corner, NJ. Walt worked there until 2 months ago. Walt was an avid hunter. He loved the NY Giants and the Mets; He was always involved in his daughter Patty and son Joseph's extracurricular activities. Walt had a love for the outdoors and would educate anyone who would listen on environmental conservation. A member of the National Geographic Society, Walt was a walking encyclopedia. Walt is survived by his wife Peggy, daughter Patty and son Joseph, his brothers and sisters, Frank, Charlie, Chet, Josephine, Mary and Anna. In lieu of flowers, Walt wanted a donation in his name to benefit the American Cancer Society, 669 Littleton Rd., Parsippany, NJ 07054-4834.
