Obituary of Joseph James Barta

Mr. Joseph James Barta, age 82, died on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville after a short illness. Mr. Barta was born in Hamburg, NJ and has resided in Watchung for the past 41 years. Mr. Barta graduated Hamburg High School and attended Princeton University. He then served in the US Army and was stationed in Okinawa during WWII. After the service he attended Rutgers University, School of Engineering and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi. In 1969, he started his own company, Electromotive Inc. in Springfield retiring around 1996. Joseph was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is predeceased by his parents, James and Elizabeth Polyi Barta and his sister, Elizabeth Kannaley all of Hamburg. Mr. Barta is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores Ames Barta; his two sons, James J. and his wife Nancy of Wantage and Thomas F. and his wife Sandy of Warren; two sisters, Helen Kaposi of Hamburg and Mary Bodle of Ogdensburg; two grandsons, Michael Barta of Warren and Joseph A. Barta of Wantage; many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 20th at 9:45 a.m. from the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung followed by a 10:45 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at Our Lady of the Mount R.C. Church, Warren. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Franklin, NJ. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the funeral home.
