Obituary of George W. Gilbert

George W. Gilbert, age 77, died on Friday, January 12, 2007 at his home. Mr. Gilbert was born in Webster, Mass to the late Wilfred and Rose Saboisiere Gilbert. He lived in Winston Salem, NC for 12 years before residing in Warren 33 years ago. Mr. Gilbert worked for Bell Labs in Whippany and North Carolina Labs as an Electrical Engineer for 33 years retiring in 1989. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Poly Technical Institute in 1956. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the US Army. George was an avid golfer who enjoyed traveling, and doing projects around his house. But most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, June M. (Langevin) Gilbert; his son Gary S. Gilbert of Whitehouse Station; his 3 daughters, Kathleen Riley of Cary, NC, Anne Spillane of Virginia Beach, VA and Sharon Pier of Glen Gardner, NJ; one brother, Silvio Gilbert of Webster, MA; three sisters, Lorraine Pulse and Lucille Gilbert of Webster, MA and Doris Warhurst of Seattle, WA; and 8 grandchildren. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 16th at 9:15 a.m. from the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung followed by a 10:15 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at Our Lady of the Mount R.C. Church, Warren. Entombment will be in Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the funeral home.
