Obituary of Winifred Letso

North Plainfield: Winifred Gardner Letso, 80 of North Plainfield, passed away on February 15, 2007 at Runnells Specialized Hospital in Berkeley Heights. Winnie was born in St. Petersburg, FL, one of eight Gardner children. She had resided in North Plainfield for the past 58 years. She loved being Nanny to her eight grandchildren, traveling throughout the United States by auto and spending her summers at Chadwick Beach, NJ. She was a graduate of Mount St. Marys Academy of Watchung, NJ and attended Union County College. As an advocate for children, she was especially proud of winning nine elections and serving for 27 years on the North Plainfield Board of Education. During her tenure, she served as Vice President and President of the Somerset County Education Association. In 2005, she was inducted into the North Plainfield High School Alumni Association Hall of Fame. She was predeceased by her five brothers and two sisters. Surviving are her loving husband of 58 years, Peter E. Letso; her daughter, Debra Pace and her husband Robert of Cranford; her sons, Peter E., Jr. and his wife Catherine of Hillsborough, Michael and his wife Tracey of Silver Beach, NJ and Robert and his wife Kristen of Martinsville; her grandchildren, Ryan, Nicholas and Dana Fanelli; Timothy and Christopher Letso; Derek and Chase Johnson and Emily Nicole Letso. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 20th at 9:00 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 9:30 Mass of Resurrection at St. Josephs RC Church, North Plainfield. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the North Plainfield High School Scholarship Fund, 145 Cedar Street, North Plainfield, NJ 07060.
