Obituary of James Joseph Smith

Mr. James J. Smith, Smitty, 77, died Saturday, February 17, 2007 with his family by his side. Born in Ponca City, OK, he resided in Warren for 41 years before recently moving to Hackettstown. Mr. Smith was a self-employed mechanic and welder for over 50 years. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and was a member of the Watchung Hills B.P.O. Elks Lodge # 2252. He was a car enthusiast, always willing to lend a hand with repairs. He had many friends and enjoyed life, but most of all, he loved spending time with his four grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Gladys L. Smith; two daughters, Carol Murphy and her husband Thomas of Washington, NJ, and Laura Freund and her husband Joseph of Fogelsville, PA; a brother William Smith of FL and four grandchildren, Alexandra, Brian, Raven and Lydia. Visitation will be held at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung on Wednesday February 21, 2007 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Cremation will be private.
